Memories
Life is made of memories -
some are good and some are bad.
It's never too late to add some good -
some day they'll make us glad.
Bad memories need a firm hand -
throw them out and lose the key;
Good memories put a song in our hearts
for both you and me.
We take comfort in those special times
we build with one another;
They keep us warm and hold us tight
like a baby held by a mother.
A good memory is to cherish
and recall how it came about.
It will stay with us forever -
of that I have no doubt.
Doing a good deed will make us feel good;
it's something we will remember.
Attend a play, write your thoughts,
make a snowman in December.
This is how we build memories;
it's easier than you think.
We'll benefit with happiness,
and feel we're in the pink.
Things we remember through the years
are memories we've made;
They make life happy for others, too,
and for us they never fade.

My Valentine

Your eyes can heal whatever's wrong,
can chase the hurt or fear.
The understanding look they give
can wipe away each tear.
Your smile turns winter into spring
and roses bloom for me.
That tenderness that shows you care
is all that I can see.
These things are free like the moon and stars
- a smile, a gentle touch -
And to me it is these little things
that mean so very much.

The Cardinal
The bird looked suave and debonair,
dressed in his vibrant hue;
Against the snow-covered evergreens
he furnished a colourful view.
His song was music to my ears
that frigid winter morning;
His notes heard clear and eagerly
sent my heart a-soaring.
A cardinal's dress, in February,
struck a note apart;
His song of love - a valentine -
warmed a lonely heart.

Thank you Valentine

I give to you a memory from deep within my heart;
Of friendship true, no matter what, you always were a part.
Tender words moved heavy weights, support built confidence;
A song, a smile, a helping hand, my dreams did all enhance.
Today these dreams are taking shape because you led the way;
And I remember wisdom, strength, that's building my today.
This memory is my Valentine that nothing can erase -
Faith, hope and love in my heart and you put them in their place.

Just Be
When the ice coats all, from freezing rain,

and it's a feat to stay aloft,

The birds still have to find their food;

and it shows that they aren't soft.

I filled my feeder awhile ago

and was trying to move some ice;

A chicadee came up so close to me;

chirping "Me, me, me" - So nice!

It was a moving "thank you" -

one I won't forget;

Such a little thing for me to do

and yet a reward I did net.

He came back with his family

and other birds he'd told;

They chattered and sang and gave thanks, too;

and made me warm - not cold.

They gave me strength to scrape the ice,

while they chirped their songs to me;

If that is all I accomplish today,

it was a time to remember and "just be".

The Sounds of Silence
The morning was mute, quiet and still

as I awoke from a peaceful rest;

The sounds of silence were a soft calm

and peace was mine - I was blessed.

A hushed world was solemn in thought

at the silence all around;

Snowflakes fell like pure-white feathers

and never made a sound.

A lull like this, in a busy world,

was Nature's gift of wonder;

I stifled thoughts of anything

that might put it asunder.

For just awhile on a winter's morn,

I turned within, in awe;

Listening to the sounds of silence

and the beauty that I saw.

One-of-a-kind Mixes

I wonder if the sun is a giant kettle, boiling colours all day,
And sunsets are colours, spilling at will, each day in a different way?
A pretty time on a winter's day is when nature's palette spills;
When shadows fall on the crusted snow and the sun sinks low in the hills.
It doesn't go without leaving a gift - its painting for the day;
Melon, mauve and raspberry make the mixture for today.
A ball of fiery, passionate-orange at only half-past three,
Now leaves behind a treasured mix that never again we may see.

The Magic of the Sun

When the sun shines on the fields of snow and the ice upon the tree,
A gleaming crystalline palace meets the eye and captures me.
I allow myself to enter in, drawn by the dazzling view;
My heart is touched with a diamond wand and suddenly all is new.
Before my eyes, the winter day transforms to an image of spring,
When the river dances in the sun, bringing brilliance to everything.
The beauty is etched upon my mind by nature's famous sculptor,
The happy host of the sky - the sun - and a most-magical captor

Divine Art

Evergreens so beautiful -
dressed in virgin white;
Here and there, ornaments of colour -
God’s winter birds - a delight!

Cardinals, Jays, Chickadees,
and God’s beloved Sparrows -
All a part of His winter canvas
perfected by He who knows.

Snow that falls throughout the night -
untouched by human hand,
Is a vision of Holy loveliness
to those who understand.

Painters, photographers and poets, too,
try to capture the sight;
Skiers, children, enjoy it their way -
as they play with all their might.

Some look through their window-pane,
just admiring the view;
God sends it for those who are shut in -
not only for me and you.

How Great His Wisdom and Love for all!
He knows whate’er the season -
Creative paintings send LOVE all around
and that is God’s gift and reason.
